During the past four years, you may have had a chance to hear the melodic sounds of a harp playing in the waiting areas of the Zangmeister Cancer Center. Susan Scott has been volunteering her time to play once a month for the patients at the Zangmeister Center. Susan says the Zangmeister Center is a favorite place of hers to test her new repertoire of music, and the audience could not be more affirming and enthusiastic. And she enjoys using music as a way to bring solace and happiness to patients and caregivers even for a brief time of the day.
Approximately six years ago, after a 30 year career as a night shift pharmacist at Mt Carmel St. Ann’s Hospital, Susan reduced her hours to part time and began pursuing a lifelong dream to play the harp. Susan has been instructed and mentored by Columbus Symphony harpists Jude Mollenhauer and Yan Ni and playing ever since.
Throughout the year, you can find Susan volunteering her time to play in churches, schools, assisted living and senior centers, country clubs and choirs. This lifelong dream would not be fulfilled without the adoring support of her husband, Hugo, who is her biggest fan and official “harp schlepper.”
