Emotional support for those affected by cancer has always been a major component of our philosophy. Recognizing that supportive services are needed, Laura Beemiller, LISW, a Master’s prepared Social Worker, was added to the staff of Mid Ohio Oncology/Hematology in 1998. As the practice added additional sites it became apparent that in order to meet the needs associated with this type of growth another Social Worker was needed and in 2001 the practice hired their second Social Worker, Debi Chakeres, LISW. In 2005 the third Social Worker, Brooke Benack, LISW, was added to meet the ever growing needs.
In order to meet our community’s changing needs, the Haven of Hope Cancer Foundation was formed in April, 2007 as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, and additional funding through grants, we continue to provide services and programs to support the emotional needs of those affected by a cancer diagnosis.
With the opening of The Mark H. Zangmeister Center in May, 2007 much needed space became available to the Haven to offer so much more to the community affected by a cancer diagnosis. Today our Social Workers lead support groups, facilitate educational programs, and collaborate with local and national organizations to provide services and resources for those whose life journey has now changed.
Dedicated to caring for the whole person, our mission is to promote the physical, emotional, spiritual and financial well-being of cancer patients, survivors and their families along their journey.
